It is a pleasure to announce a talk of Dr. Daniel Simpson in the

Biostatistics Research Seminar
Division of Biostatistics,
Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine,
University of Zrich
Hirschengraben 84
8001 Zrich

Date: Wednesday, the 27th of February 2013
Time: 10-12 a.m.
Location: ISPM, Hirschengraben 84, HRS-F-05

Title: Multivariate and Markovian: Modelling multivariate responses with SPDEs

Speaker: Dr. Daniel Simpson
Address: Department of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway

Abstract:
In this talk I will explore the extension of the Markovian random field models introduced by Lindgren et al (2011) to the multivariate case. I will introduce the concept of multivariate random fields and describe how the SPDE framework can be extended to this case. In particular, I will look at the application of such models to global reconstruction of temperature and pressure fields and show that these new models have better predictive performance than the covariance-based approaches of Gneiting, Kleiber and Schlather (2010).

After lunch Daniel will have some time for informal discussions.

Everybody is welcome!

Kind regards,
Malgorzata Roos
