[Statlist] Swiss Days of Statistics 2006: Call of Papers (2nd call) and Key Note Speakers

Dear member of statlist,

in 2006, the Swiss Days of Statistics will take place in the Ticino, in the beautiful town of Lugano, from November 15 to 17 2006.

The organizing committee has opened the Call of Papers. You can find all the relevant information at this address:

This year, no general theme will be used throughout the conference. However, the programme will be very widespread in order to satisfy the needs of almost all statisticians. Please send us your abstracts no later than April 30, 2006.

The following Key Note Speakers have confirmed their participation:

Mrs Naomi B. Robbins 
Mrs Naomi B. Robbins is a consultant and seminar leader who specializes in the graphical display of data. She is the author of "Creating More Effective Graphs" (Wiley, 2005). She will talk about drawing clear, concise, accurate graphs. She will also explain the limitations of many charts and graphs in common use today, and provide newer, more effective graph forms. Finally, she will share her experience on how to put this topic on our managers desks. For more information, consult www.nbr-graphs.com.

Giovanni Barone-Adesi 
Prof. Giovanni Barone-Adesi is a professor of finance at the Swiss Finance Institute at the University of Lugano. He specializes in financial derivatives and risk management. Roger W. Hoerl
Roger W. Hoerl is the leader of the Applied Statistics Program at GE Global Research in Schenectady, New York. He has been actively involved in GE's Six Sigma initiative since 1995. He is coauthor of the books "Statistical Thinking - Improving Business Performance" and "Statistics - A Guide to the Unknown". He will give a talk entitled "Beyond the Factory  Floor - Statistical Thinking in the Service Sector".
In this talk he will explain how dominant the service (non-manufacturing) sector is becoming in the global economy, and demonstrate how large an impact statistical thinking can have here.

Andrea Saltelli
Andrea Saltelli is Head of Econometrics and Applied Statistics at the Joint Research Center of the European Union at Ispra (Italy). He has published books and articles on Sensitivity Analysis and he is co-author of the "Handbook on Constructing Composite Indicators: Methodology and User Guide". He will talk about the statistical methods that can assist in the construction of a composite indicators (multivariate methods, imputation, normalisation, weighting and sensitivity analysis) and illustrate them with examples. Prof Elvezio Ronchetti
Prof Elvezio Ronchetti is Professor of Statistics at the University of Geneva (http://www.unige.ch/ses/metri/ronchetti/). Details of his talk will be published as soon as possible.
