Jean-François Cardoso, ENST, Dept. TSI, Paris

The three easy routes to independent component analysis.
An information geometric point of view

Independent component analysis (ICA) is a class of techniques for the
linear decomposition of data into components which are `as independent
as possible'. The art of ICA is to express statistical independence
beyond mere decorrelation in an efficient manner. Most ICA algorithms
exploit non Gaussianity but other approaches are possible when looking
for independent components in time series or in spatial processes.
Simple ideas exploit non-stationarity or spectral diversity of the
components. These are the 3 easy routes to ICA. In this talk, I will
show how all these approaches give a common underlying structure to
mutual information and how this is related to sparse representations.
This theory is developed in the framework of information
geometry.
