Was it Ben Bolker's book "Ecological Models and Data in R"?  He has  
it available for free on his website [ http://www.zoo.ufl.edu/bolker/ 
emdbook/index.html ] while he's in the progress of finishing it.   
It's a fantastic reference, and I highly recommend it.  Sorry about  
your computer!
