  lme4 1.0-4 is on the main part of CRAN now (it has propagated at
least as far as the Canadian mirror, although
http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/lme4/index.html is still
listing the old MacOS and Windows binaries).

  Release notes are most easily accessible at

https://github.com/lme4/lme4/blob/master/misc/notes/release_notes.md

  We are still in the process of helping downstream package
maintainers to update their packages; if you have problems with a
downstream package, please contact the maintainers first.

  It is still unclear whether an lme4.0 backward-compatibility package
will be allowed on CRAN or not.
