Thanks in advance for whoever is going to answer my questions…

I’ve complete a subgroup analysis using this command:

> update.meta(m.gen,+             subgroup = ins,+             tau.common = FALSE)

and the result is as follows:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Review:     DGBL

Number of studies: k = 59

                             SMD           95%-CI    t  p-value

Random effects model (HK) 1.3783 [0.9980; 1.7587] 7.25 < 0.0001

Quantifying heterogeneity:

 tau^2 = 1.7452 [1.3574; 3.2543]; tau = 1.3211 [1.1651; 1.8040]

 I^2 = 91.2% [89.4%; 92.7%]; H = 3.37 [3.07; 3.70]

Test of heterogeneity:

      Q d.f.  p-value

 658.12   58 < 0.0001

Results for subgroups (random effects model (HK)):

              k    SMD           95%-CI  tau^2    tau      Q   I^2

ins = GM_BA  47 1.4920 [1.0182; 1.9658] 2.2007 1.4835 595.63 92.3%

ins = GM_EN  12 0.9195 [0.5273; 1.3117] 0.2476 0.4976  48.15 77.2%

Test for subgroup differences (random effects model (HK)):

                  Q d.f. p-value

Between groups 3.76    1  0.0525

Details on meta-analytical method:

- Inverse variance method

- Restricted maximum-likelihood estimator for tau^2

- Q-Profile method for confidence interval of tau^2 and tau

- Hartung-Knapp adjustment for random effects model (df = 58)

Yet, in order to present the outcome of this subgroup analysis, I need the
p-value. And the command on the website only says,” …To extract the
subgroup-specific p-values, it is necessary to save the results of
update.meta to an object, and then extract the pval.random.w element from
that object using the $ operator.”

But what are the commands I should put in order to (1) save the
aforementioned result to an object, and (2) extract the p-value (like where
should I put the $ ?)

Thank you so much for the time for newbies to R!

Best,
