Dear R for macOS Development Team,

I am experiencing a reproducible crash when launching R Commander (Rcmdr) on
my Apple Silicon Mac. I would appreciate your advice on how to resolve this
issue.

System information:

Mac: MacBook Air with Apple M4 chip

macOS: Tahoe 26.6.2

R: 4.6.1 (arm64)

R Commander (Rcmdr): 2.15.0

EZR (RcmdrPlugin.EZR): 1.70

Tcl/Tk: 8.6.13, installed through the official R macOS package

XQuartz: 2.8.6

Problem:

When I launch R from Terminal and execute:

library(Rcmdr)

R begins loading the required packages but then terminates with the following
X11 error:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
  Value in failed request: 0xa00228
Serial number of failed request: 2199
Current serial number in output stream: 2200

The Terminal then returns to the shell prompt.

Troubleshooting already performed:

Confirmed that Tcl/Tk is available in R.

Confirmed that a basic Tk window can be created successfully.

Confirmed that the Tk wish8.6 application can display text using standard Tk
fonts.

Confirmed that XQuartz is installed and can display X11 applications.

Refreshed the font cache and restarted XQuartz.

Tried changing Tk font settings, including Helvetica and Courier.

Tried modifying the X11 font path.

Tested R Commander with alternative R options, without success.

The same X_OpenFont error occurs consistently.

I understand that newer Tcl/Tk releases may include fixes related to X11 font
errors. However, the Tcl/Tk installation bundled with my R environment is
version 8.6.13.

Could you please advise:

Is this a known compatibility issue involving R Commander, Tcl/Tk 8.6.13,
XQuartz, and recent macOS versions?

Is there an officially supported way to update Tcl/Tk without breaking the
existing R installation?

Is there a recommended workaround for running R Commander and EZR on an Apple
Silicon Mac?

I would prefer to preserve my existing R and EZR installation if possible.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards
