Clicking on the link takes user to mac.r-project.org/bin. Here the only method of install described is via install.libs(). By using install.libs(), I found out that binaries (for my Intel Mac) are located at mac.r-project.org/bin/darwin20/x86_64/. But if I did not already have R installed, I would not be able to go to this location.

The R script is just a convenience method to resolve dependencies if you have complex requirements so you don't have to do it yourself. Besides, you can always grab R from CRAN to bootstrap it if that's what you are going for.

In the Index section, there is a link to “Sources for tools and binaries”. But on the tools page, there are only links to liblzma and PCRE2 websites. Here you can also provide links to binaries above.

I just wanted a “clean” or “complete” package install, not knowing how much trouble that would create. A new user can be unsettled by warnings coming from loading a package.
