thanks, it helps a lot but I get the following instead of downloading:

100 9443 100 9443 0 0 26789 0 --:--:-- --:--:--
--:--:-- 46517 0 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 0
>

, also I tried

> fileUrl<- "https://data.baltimorecity.gov/api/views/dz54-2aru/rows.csv?accessType=DOWNLOAD"
> download.file(fileUrl, destfile="cameras.csv", method="curl")

and the output is:

100 9443 100 9443 0 0 7196 0 0:00:01 0:00:01
--:--:-- 65576 0 --:--:-- 0:00:01 --:--:-- 0
