Peter has answered and he has Linux experience whereas I do not. The one surprise I encounter is that if the cursor on the console session has bee moved off the command line, the up-arrow and down-arrows no linger work. It is easy to fix that in one keystroke by just typing a <space> which repositions the cursor at the command line.
