[R-SIG-Mac] R package installer + update is slow and freezes

The distance doesn't matter at all - it's more a matter of how good connection does the server have, how heavy is the load etc. Essentially anywhere in the US is just fine.

If you have problems with any mirror then the issue may be with your local machine or its internet connection...
