I suspect you may have installed the Leopard gfortran-4.2 previously  
and then upgraded your OS and Xcode (there is no gfortran in stock  
Xcode 3.2). That will work, but it is 32-bit by default since it comes  
from Xcode 3.1.x which was 32-bit by default (you can still compile 64- 
bit with it by using -arch x86_64).
