Well, i386 is not 64-bit.

Try

See the last three flags in my configure statement. My gcc-4.2 was
configured with the same flags
../gcc-4.2/configure --enable-languages=c,c++,objc,obj-c++,fortran \
--build=x86_64-apple-darwin10 --host=x86_64-apple-darwin10 --
target=x86_64-apple-darwin10
Don't know if this is necessary, but it is sufficient.
