[R-SIG-Mac] <ESC> causes R.app to freeze

Hi folks,

I've perused the list archives, but alas...

I'm using R 2.6.2 with GUI 1.23 on a dual G5 Mac.  Hitting <ESC>  
immediately after launch (and at any other point besides) causes R to  
freeze (spinning beach ball of death) with accompanying spike in  
processor activity.

Crash log upon force quitting indicates that R.app hangs on kernel  
task AlignAssist, though I don't have the foggiest notion how this  
relates.

Have not been able to reproduce this error using console R.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
