I just downloaded a slightly newer version of Hmisc from Harrell's web
page (Hmisc_3.0_4.tar.gz). I got about the same results that you did,
except that I got the warnings:
ld: warning -L: directory name
(/usr/local/lib/gcc/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8/3.4.2) does not exist
ld: warning -L: directory name
(/usr/local/lib/gcc/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8/3.4.2/../../..) does
not exist
which I assume means that I do not have the most up-to-date gcc libraries
installed? How do I get / install those?
