If you really want to use gcc-4 on Panther, you can, by updating the  
cctools package as described on hpc.sourceforge.net.  However, it is  
flying very fast and very very low because gcc-4 can easily produce  
object code which will not run on Panther.  It is most definitely  
unsupported!
