Thanks to Don MacQueen, Thomas Lumley and Simon Urbanek for all  
pointing out the same thing - a character space in the  
write(rnorm(4),"") line.

Interestingly, if this line is typed in BBedit, the script and R call  
interpret a space, when in fact none is typed.  Creating the same  
script in pico allows for success, even though the typing is the same.   
Hmmm.  Something to work on in BBedit?  Or get myself in gear and start  
using emacs.
