This announce is for Mac R developers mostly.

I have just updated the R-devel repository with a brand new quartz()
device.
This will allow the Darwin build of R to display graphics without the
need of X11.

The device is in its first release so it is needed more feedback as
possible to let it become the true natural graphics device of Darwin R.

You should try to build R from the R-devel sources.

Please read the R-admin manual on how to build Darwin R for details, but
two more things have to be done to let this version of R-devel to build
under OSX.

The first is to add the "-framework Carbon" to the linker options.

Once R is built, your have to rename bin/help as something else
otherwise R will not launch properly.

We are working for a better configuration process to avoid these last to
steps.

To use the quartz device simply open it with quartz(). See the man page
for the options ?quartz.

Looking forward for your comments,

							Stefano

p.s. one remark: the graphic window is not resizable and cannot be moved
at the moment so don't send feedback on this.
