In my previous msg I said that maps package should work without problems on Darwin R. I cannot provide it, but you can just follow Brian Ripley's instructions to build it. Move all the files in the src/proj dir into src/. Delete the make files and build it as usual using R CMD INSTALL maps from the shell. good luck stefano
