ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu/pub/emacs

now has emacs-21.3.50-mac-bin.tar.gz

This is the Carbon emacs, using the source code from the GNU
cvs server

http://savannah.gnu.org/cvs/?group=emacs

You cannot be more up-to-date than that. It compiles out of the
box now, no patches or anything are necessary, just say
"configure --without-x".

Emacs is compiled on Jaguar 6C115 with gcc-3.1 (version 1151). I had
to switch off the fink ncurses and used the one in the developer
tools (thanks, Andrew Choi).

This emacs does not come with the various lisp files, which you
have to install separately in /usr/local/share/emacs/21.3.50. Of
course if you compile this yourself, you do get the lisp files and
you also get the command-line version of emacs-21.3.50 (Apple's
version in Jaguar is 21.1.1).
