"does it make sense to continue to support old MacOS'es ?"

In the long run, no... but I am running a 6100 and an 8100, both more than
7 years old, with Sonnet G3 upgrades. They are fast enough for my needs,
very stable, support all my periperals, etc. Im running OS 8.6, I don't
think they would support 9.2 very well. I know I could replace them with
something much better for about $2500 each but that is still a lot of
money when these meet my needs. So I will certainly be appreciative of OS
8.6 support for another year. Beyond that, I won't expect developers to
put in extra hours to save me a few $$ in hardware.

Of course, every year I postpone getting new machines, the better the
machines I will get when I do upgrade!
