INSTITUTE OF OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE, EDINBURGH

Research Scientist, Statistics and Toxicology Section

Salary 19,000 to 36,000

We are seeking to appoint a Research Scientist to join the Statistics and Toxicology Section in our Research Division to work on a variety of research and review projects undertaken by the team. This will be a permanent post based in our Edinburgh office. The post holder will provide effective application of statistical ideas to help give valid answers to substantive scientific questions, within practical constraints of time and budget.

This post will suit someone with at least a good first degree in statistics or biometrics, with some relevant experience of multi-disciplinary research, and with a willingness to learn.

The person appointed will have both opportunity and encouragement to do interesting, useful research; to develop as an applied statistician and as a project team member; and to publish in the scientific literature. It is likely that our research programme, and our close links with several universities, will give suitable opportunities to staff who wish to study for a higher degree, e.g. PhD; we encourage this.

The post requires familiarity with statistical ideas (including survey methodology) and methods (at least some of: regression; ANOVA; generalised linear models; survival analysis); and the ability to implement them, via standard packages (e.g. Stata, R, Minitab); and an understanding of the issues involved in data recording, control and organisation.

Further details are available at http://www.iom-world.org/careers/research-scientist,-statistics-and-toxicology-section/ .

A full job description is available on request from Human Resources. To apply please send a cover letter outlining your suitability for this role together with a CV to Julie Knox, HR Administrator at Julie.knox using iom-world.org <mailto:Julie.knox using iom-world.org> .

The closing date for applications is 7th March 2014.
