Responsibilities

 

We are seeking an experienced Programmer/Systems Analyst.  The person
will join the Cancer Prevention Program providing support for the data
analysis of a large-scale genome-wide association study.  This
genome-wide scan is an NCI-funded multiple-year project with the goal to
identify susceptibility genes associated with cancer risk and to
investigate interaction between genes and environmental factors.  The
Programmer/Systems Analyst will work in a multidisciplinary research
team.  He/she will provide programming support for management of high
dimensional data sets, implement quality control procedures, apply
various software applications, and assist with running statistical
analysis on high performance compute clusters.  Furthermore, the person
will prepare written documentation for the data management and the
results of data analysis. 

 

Major Duties

 

In support of the research projects, the incumbent may perform one or
more of the following tasks in addition to other duties as assigned:

 

1.	Participate in design and development of the data management
system for studies. 
2.	Design, test, document, and maintain databases. 
3.	Develop, document, and maintain data cleaning procedures. 
4.	Implement and maintain standard datasets and reports. 
5.	Perform study-specific reporting. 
6.	Implement various software tools, such as PLINK, BeadStudio,
GenomeStudio, or software packages in R. 
7.	Develop and/or maintain user interface programs and software
tools. 
8.	Assist with the statistical analysis on high performance compute
cluster.

Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and two years'
experience as a Systems Analyst/Programmer III or equivalent; or one
year as a Systems Analyst/Programmer III or equivalent and a Master's
Degree in a job-related area.  Experience with LINUX/Unix and R are
required.  Knowledge of C, FORTRAN, PERL, PYTHON, Rmpi or mpi is
desirable.  Experience with management of complex, high-dimensional
genotype data is desirable.  Demonstrated ability to communicate
effectively as part of a team. 

 


Recommended Qualifications


Proficient use of database management and statistical software.
Knowledge of and experience in programming support of statistical
analysis and methods development, or other scientific research are
desired. Experience in writing program, system, and/or database
documentation.
