Bioinformatics Scientist position in Maryland


Description Title: Bioinformatics Scientist I/II - Translational Science
Location - Gaithersburg, MD

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
We have an opening in the pharmacogenomics group within the
translational science department. We are looking for a highly motivated
computational biologist/bioinformatician with experience in large-scale
sequence analysis of data generated by technologies such as Roche 454,
Illumina, or AB SOLiD. Additional background in the following is
required: statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and algorithm
development to support research into the pathways and other biological
mechanisms underlying drug response. The candidate should also have
demonstrated proficiency in the analysis of expression microarray and/or
SNP array data. Additional experience in database management, analytical
pipeline creation, and implementing biomarkers in clinical trials is
highly desired. The candidate should be capable of working on multiple
simultaneous projects.

Position Requirements Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant
experience

Special Skills/Abilities: Minimum 3 years proficiency with Splus/R
analysis/programming and at least one additional language (e.g. Perl,
Python, C, Java) required; Expertise in analysis of sequencing,
microarrays, splice variants and/or SNPs, and miRNA data; Experience
with Linux/UNIX environments and working knowledge of traditional
bioinformatics tools.

Job Complexity: The ability to interact in a cross functional
environment, and strong oral and written skills are required. Must have
experience writing manuscripts. The candidate should be capable of
multitasking and working effectively with scientists from translational
RIA, and translational oncology.

Supervision: Must have demonstrated independent work experience. 

Educational Requirements Education: PhD in computational biology,
bioinformatics, statistics, or related bioscience.
