[R-sig-Geo] What is the metric projection equivalent to WGS 84

I can calculate the area with all of your suggestions (WGS 84 / UTM), I also
find the function 
areaPolygon in the R package geosphere, proposed by Jérome, very
interesting,
it allows you to calculate the area (m2) without changing the projection
(WGS84).
