Follow up to my previous message --- I was too impatient with my toy 
example.  The summary() function *did* return a result, after a matter 
of minutes (rather than hours).

So it would seem that although it might be a bit slow, there is no 
fundamental problem with summary.ppm().  The problem would appear to be, 
to some extent, peculiar to your data set.

How many points are there in the pattern?  How messy is the observation 
window?

If you could make your data available we might be able to experiment and 
see if anything can be done to speed things up.
