[R-sig-Geo] Problem with rgdal

I get this weird behaviour (on linuxmint based of ubuntu raring):

> rlm1ext <- spTransform(rlm1ext, CRS("+init=epsg:4326"))
Error in spTransform(rlm1ext, CRS("+init=epsg:4326")) :

despite rgdal had been loaded:
