[R-sig-Geo] Adjust polygon border in legend?

Is there a setting to control the line width of the border of the 
polygon patch in a legend? I have plotted a SPDF using lwd=3. But in the 
legend lwd doesn't affect polygon symbols, only line symbols, so the 
symbol in the legend looks a little different from what is on the map.

I tried cex, but that scales the polygon patch without scaling the 
border. I don't see any other parameters that could control this. Am I 
overlooking something?
