[R-sig-Geo] problem density function {raster}

Hi,
there seems to be a problem with the density function when using it with
an rasterStack object.
d<-density(a1,channel,plot=F)
"Error in nlayers == 1 : comparison (1) is possible only for atomic and
list types"
?density results in:
"Error in httpd("/library/NULL/help/density", NULL, NULL, c(48, 6f, 73,
: replacement has length zero"
> sessionInfo()
R version 3.0.0 (2013-04-03)
Platform: i386-w64-mingw32/i386 (32-bit)
locale:

In my old Script it works perfectly with the same data. Can anybody help?
