[R-sig-Geo] Gibbs Point Process

Does anyone knows what is the aim of using Gibbs marked point process?! I
read a paper that used this method to find the best configuration of
locations of trees in a forest. But I'm wondering if we know the best
configuration what can we do with that (As we cannot change the locations!).
