[R-sig-Geo] degAxis() does not print degree symbol

Hello,

Sorry to dig up this thread, but I am currently facing the same issue, ie I
do not get the degree symbol on the plot but rather get a gamma symbol.
- Do someone found a solution ?
- Has it something to do with the encoding set up of my system ?

library(rgdal)
my_lines <- readOGR(".","ShapefileName")
plot(my_lines, axes=TRUE)
