Dear all,

I write to look for help about conversion in R of a Postgis layer to a
sp object. I am working in Windows: Platform: i386-pc-mingw32/i386 (32-bit)

*I could read some emails in the web about how reading a PostGIS layer
with the rgdal readOGR() function.
My understanding is that I need to install rgdal from source, because
the windows binary does not support OGR PostgreSQL driver. (not included
in the list when we enter ogrDrivers() ), but the procedure in Windows
seem hard to follow

*I tested the GDAL ogrinfo in the MS-DOS command, and the PostgreSQL
driver runs well so I can easily query my databases.
*Most of emails I could see refer to FWTools. Is it mandatory to use
FWTools to obtain a complete rgdal package (with PostgreSQL ogrDriver)
If my GDAL is funcional is there a way to built the rgdal package with it?

*What are the pre-requirements? Is it also necessary to built R from source?

I thank you in advance for you answers / guidelines to help me
installing rgdal (with complete ogrDrivers),

Cheers,
Emmanuel
