[R-sig-Geo] Optimal bandwidth selection using mse2d

Dear all
does anyone know how the MSE is calculated using the mse2d function  
from spatstat. I have the reference paper with me, but I cannot grasp  
the exact meaning.
I assume it determines the difference between the estimated kernel  
smoothed and the density (count?) of the original point pattern, is  
this correct?
