[R-sig-Geo] inter-point distance calcs

I recently calculated all pairwise point distances with the fields package.
See ?rdist and ?rdist.earth
Also the sp package has
?spDistsN1

This one seems to be used to calculate the distance from one to point
to a set of multiple points.
