[R-sig-Geo] create a grid data

I do have both datasets. I will try interp() for an irregularly spaced data.

Do your x,y coordinates form a grid, or are they irregularly spaced? If 
so, you need to interpolate to a grid, for example using interp() in the 
akima package.
