Someone here may be able to answer your question (I can't), but you may find
more people with deep experience in the nuances of the nls function on the main
r-help list. Your query was well-formed, so while I usually recommend against
cross-posting, in this case I think you might get a more complete and timely
answer if you repost to r-help (with a subject line, of course, perhaps
"parameterizing a call to nls()")
