The important point is that this is not something you got from a Fedora 
RPM. (The set of possible complications differs.)

Did you start R using $builddir/bin/R -d gdb ?

F11 and F10 presumably has R-2.9.2 prebuilt by now. (I'm still on F9 too 
due to time and disk space constraints...)
