Hi Elizabeth,
Yes you can do this using the p.uni argument, to return univariate test statistics and P-values.  You can just look at the test stats for % contributions to treatment effects (stored as $uni.test), and if interested in their significance, you could use p.uni="unadjusted" for permutation P-values, or p.uni="adjusted" for a family-wise adjustment using Holm's step down method (stored in $uni.p, unintuitive as that may be).  The latter is highly conservative, especially when there are heaps of response variables.  Using the spider data:

data(spider)
spiddat  = mvabund(spider$abund)
X        = data.frame(spider$x)
glm.spid = manyglm(spiddat~bare.sand+fallen.leaves, data=X, family="negative.binomial") an.spid  = anova(glm.spid, p.uni="adjusted", show.time="all") #takes maybe 30 seconds an.spid$table

# to look at contributions of spp to fallen.leaves effect an.spid$uni.p # three spp significant after multiple testing s = sort(an.spid$uni.test[3,],index.return=T,decreasing=T)
s$x[1:3]/sum(s$x) #the proportions of total test stat due to these three spp.  In total, 81% of the fallen leaves deviance across all spp

I think this is something like what you are after, although strictly speaking it is not SIMPER-like output because as far as I can tell SIMPER typically gives little indication of where the treatment effect actually is!

I am wondering how to test for the relative effects of different species in an abundance matrix that I am analyzing with manyglm in the mvabund package.

e.g., in the package example,

is there a way analogous to the simper method for distance matrices to test whether Alopacce is important in determining a significant effect of a treatment factor in a model that looked at manyglm(abund~treatment)?

Dear R-sig-ecology list,

I am analysing the frequency fluctuation in the calling song, and my data showed that there are certain periodic patterns produced within the song, each pattern could be due to a certain acoustic producing apparatus. Beforehand, I used packages strucchange and changepoint, but none of them were capable of segmenting the sequence into discrete patterns according to shape, not mean or variance values. I wonder if there is any other methods that could help me identify patterns or shapes of frequency fluctuation?
