[R-sig-eco] How to creat such kind of plot in R ?

Dear list,

Attached is the plot which I 'd like to creat, I first meet such kind of plot when I read one paper
 " Urbanization gradients in streams of Anchorage, Alaska: a comparison of multivariate and multimetric approaches to classification, A. M. Milner, Hydrobiologia, 2000"
But, it seems that the author didn't mention the soft/program in which this plot has been produced. So, I want to know which package or function should I take for my goal, and any of your hint will be greatly appreciated.
