Dear ecologists,
please note the job offers below, especially the three postdoc positions
in ecological statistics resp. ecological modeling. We are seeking for
excellent candidates.
Thomas Petzoldt
NITROLIMIT: Nitrogen limitation in freshwaters – Is nitrogen reduction
ecologically meaningful and economically feasible?
Aims and scope: The impact of nitrogen on the regulation of
phytoplankton growth and biomass will be studied in comparison to other
relevant environmental variables to analyze whether nitrogen reduction
is a meaningful measure to improve the ecological state of lakes and
rivers. Nitrogen input into lakes and rivers, internal turnover rates
and retention will be quantified. Results on nitrogen input and
retention as well as its ecological effectiveness will be used to
improve ecosystem and catchment area models for the simulation of
different scenarios of lake and river development. Costs and benefits of
nitrogen reduction will be analyzed and recommendations for sustainable
management of lakes and rivers will be compiled.
