[R-sig-eco] Adonis vs anosim/mrpp in vegan

I am curious about the suggestion and warnings about using adonis 
instead of the functions anosim and mrpp in the vegan package.  Is this 
suggestion based on the fact that MANOVA using distance matrices is more 
robust and powerful than anosim and mrpp statistically speaking and 
should be used instead or is this a suggestion based on the R 
implementation of these processes in the vegan package? Any insight 
would be appreciated.
