Dear all,

it is a pleasure to inform you that the femR package is now ready to use!

femR is the first package in the R ecosystem to solve Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) using the Finite Element Method (FEM). At present, femR can handle both spatio and spatio-temporal diffusion-transport-reaction problems defined over general two-dimensional domains. These equations finds applications across many applied disciplines, for instance, environmental sciences, biomedicine, chemistry, engineering etc. The FEM approach enables to find solutions which are highly accurate and with a reasonable computational effort.

The femR interface makes it very easy for the user to formulate the differential problem, as writing it down on a piece of paper.

You can find more informations on femR on the blog published on the R Consortium website:
https://www.r-consortium.org/blog/2023/12/11/femr-bridging-physics-and-statistics-in-r-with-support-from-the-r-consortium

You can find the femR source code in the github repository:
https://github.com/fdaPDE/femR

Installation instructions, documentation, examples and more can be found on the documentation site:
https://fdapde.github.io/femR/

We plan to release on CRAN in the coming spring. Meanwhile, small modifications to the R interface are still possible. Moreover, any feedback or suggestion to improve the package is highly appreciated!
Please, for any suggestion write to aldo.clemente using polimi.it<mailto:aldo.clemente using polimi.it> and alessandro.palummo using polimi.it<mailto:alessandro.palummo using polimi.it>.

Finally, we are keeping enlarging the capabilities of the package, e.g., to non-linear reaction terms such as logistic terms, and improving the documentation site, so stay tuned!

Respectfully,
the femR development team.
