That all looks exactly as it happened for me.

Thank you for going through the steps like that: next time I find a
problem like this I'll have a better idea how to track it down and
propose a fix rather than merely reporting the problem.

And thanks for looking after the backporting: I wish to have a stable
Debian but with up to date R, so it's ideal for me.
