As a follow-up, Kurt tells me [1] that Achim and he looked into this issue
and extended the 'person' class to support

   +## Example for a contributor whose real name is unknown and cannot be
   +## determined:
   +person(given = "@zeileis", role = "ctb", comment = "GitHub user")

which has now been committed as c88299.
