   FWIW  Rcpp handles this (for CLOENV) with an ifdef:

             #if (defined(R_VERSION) && R_VERSION >= R_Version(4,5,0))
             return R_ClosureEnv(fun);
             #else
             return CLOENV(fun);
             #endif
