Dang. In which case I bail. I have weird things on Windows too -- it would
never see my external library directory (set via .libPaths in Rprofile.site)
and I think I gave up and copied the libraries I needed for a test into
$R_HOME/library instead.
Maybe someone else can help.

| That is pretty explicit. R does not where to find a CRAN mirror, and the
| powers that be decided to not set a default.
