I'm trying to install R-2.0.1 on Solaris 9 and I'm receiving the following error messages during make. begin installing recommended package foreign make[2]: *** [foreign.ts] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/opt/net/source/R-2.0.1/src/library/Recommended' make[1]: *** [recommended-packages] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/net/source/R-2.0.1/src/library/Recommended' make: *** [stamp-recommended] Error 2 A review of src/library/Recommended/foreign.ts.out shows: * Installing *source* package 'foreign' ... configure: loading cache /dev/null checking for gcc... make[3]: Entering directory `/tmp/R.INSTALL.169/foreign' gcc -m64 make[3]: Leaving directory `/tmp/R.INSTALL.169/foreign' checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables See `config.log' for more details. ERROR: configuration failed for package 'foreign' A review of config.log does not reveal anything terribly useful. I'm using gcc, g77, and g++ v3.4.1, 32 bit builds (I think), all installed under /opt/net/utils/gcc3.4.1, which is in the path. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/otherstuff:/opt/net/utils/gcc3.4.1/lib:/opt/net/utils/l ib:/otherstuff My config.site contains: CC="gcc" CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/include" F77="g77" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/net/utils/gcc3.4.1/lib/" CXX="g++" What should I be looking for here? Thanks. Rusty [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
