[R] Running open source shiny server on Debian

There are two separate issues here:

You are linking here to Shiny Server Pro Admin Guide which is their
paid offering and for that they support the above distributions.

This has nothing to do with Shiny Server, as the default R in bookworm
is 4.2.2 (https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/r-base). So you need to
see how to update R on bookworm if that is the distribution of choice.

The open source shiny server (https://github.com/rstudio/shiny-server)
has this in the README:

"""At this time, Shiny Server can be run on Linux servers with
explicit support for Ubuntu 14.04 or greater (64 bit) and CentOS/RHEL
6 (64 bit) or greater. If you are using one of these distributions,
please download the pre-packaged installers from RStudio:"""
