Hi Eliana,

It is not clear which application is causing the error.

As you are running macOS 13.3 (Ventura) and that you are trying to install both R and RStudio (two separate applications from two different entities), please confirm that you downloaded the correct version of R for your Mac from CRAN, as per:

  https://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/

If you are on an older x86 Intel based Mac, you need to be sure that you downloaded R-4.4.2-x86_64.pkg from CRAN, and pay attention to the installation note on the above CRAN page:

"macOS Ventura users: there is a known bug in Ventura preventing installations from some locations without a prompt. If the installation fails, move the downloaded file away from the Downloads folder (e.g., to your home or Desktop)."

If you are an Apple ARM (e.g. M1) based Mac, you need to be sure to download R-4.4.2-arm64.pkg from CRAN.

As Steven notes below, this all presumes that you have the relevant access privileges to install software on the Mac and are not otherwise restricted by, for example, any security policies implemented by the owner of the Mac, if that is not you.

I do not use RStudio, and you may need to contact Posit, the publishers of that application via their support site, if the error is from their application and not R itself.

Regards,

Marc Schwartz
