[R] workflow getting UTF-8 csv in and out of R on Mac (spreadsheet editor)

read_excel in Hadley’s readxl package
should handle your encoding problems.
Writing Excel files on a Mac, however, still is somewhat messy.

And you probably should post this kind of question on r-sig-mac
